New Assamese Film “Paani (Thirst): Water for Life”


Paani (Thirst): Water for Life is a satirical tale that revolves around the politics of water supply. Based on an Assamese play by Dipak Gogoi, Paani will release on 12th September all over Assam. The film has won the Prag Cine award 2014 in the best direction and best screenplay categories.


Its the story of a dumb lad (Jitu) from ratanpur village who finds Lila, a mohurer, getting ready to install what will be the first water tap in the village. The story then follows the villagers plight in getting their share of much needed tap water, as they are duped by the Local MLA and his unfulfilled promises.

The director Jadumani Dutta has previously made two films, “Agnisakshi” and “Jetuka Pator Dore” and he won a National award for the film “Jetuka Pator Dore” in 2011 for best feature film in Assamese.


“Paani(Thirst): Water for Life” is produced by Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation and the cast of the film includes Himanshu Prasad Das (as Jitu), Debanand Saikia (as Lila), Jyoti Bhuyan (as Local MLA),  International Award Winning actor Bishnu Kharghoria (as Mitharam), Aimee Barua (as Tora), Spandan Mukul (as Mantu), Asha Bordoloi, Atul Pachoni, Pabitra Baruah, Nandita Bora, Ramen Tamuli, Ranjan Dutta etc.
