Adhyay in Shanghai international film festival


GUWAHATI: Arup Manna’s Assamese cinema ‘Adhyay’ will be screened in the world panorama section of the Shanghai International Film Festival. ‘Adhay’ was nominated in the Filmfare Awards East 2013 in the best film categories. The festival will be held from June 19th to June 25th in Shanghai, China. Arup Manna has won the Rajat Kamal at the National Awards in 2007 for his film ‘Aideu’ which was also screened in western film festivals.

The film is based on the life of an impoverished Bodo woman who migrates to the city with her husband to earn a living and is exploited, raped and killed. NSD alumnus Pabitra Rabha and actress and singer Tarumala Kutum play lead roles in the film. ‘Adhyay’ has already garnered praise at the Thrissur Film Festival, Kerala, the Dhaka International Film Festival, the Third Eye Film Festival, Mumbai, and the Habitat Film Festival, Delhi. Made on a limited budget, in 16-mm format, ‘Adhyay’ was later blown up to 35 mm.
