Alcheringa 2017 – everything you need to know
Infoview Technologies presents Alcheringa driven by Hero MotoCorp, Styled by Indian Terrain, Connected y Gionee India, Co-Sponsored by Vodafone India, Powered by Nerim, Co-presented by The Assam Tribune and in association with G PLUS and Manikchand Jewellers is IIT Guwahati’s annual Cultural Festival, was a huge success in its 21st edition which took place from 2nd – 5th February, 2017. With a footfall of over 80,000, with over 5000 participants and 450+ colleges from all over India taking part in 80+ events in the 4-day extravaganza, Alcheringa has set numerous milestones in its current edition. Conceived as a small cultural program in 1996, Alcheringa has now grown to become the largest cultural festival in North-East India and also one of the biggest cultural festivals of India!
This edition of Alcheringa’s Pro-Nites featured performances by Ghatam Maestro and Grammy Award winner Pt Vikku Vinayakram, EDM supernovas Carl Nunes and Marnik, Canadian rockers All Else Fails and Bollywood Superstars Javed Ali and Sajid-Wajid. Numerous pro-shows were also organized to promote cultures from around the World, which included Echo and Tito – Electronic artists from Israel, Colors of the North-East by ICCR – A Bihu and Sattriya Dance Performance, Nuno Mourinho – an acoustic guitarist from Portugal, The Madhatter Project – an Indie band from Singapore and The Hip Circle – a belly dancing troupe from Delhi, India.
In this edition, Alcheringa also attempted to showcase the cultures of the North-East, through its ‘Tour The North-East’ programme, which featured stalls of regional cuisine, handlooms, and handicrafts of the 8 states of North-East India, along with performances from Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.
With a great edition concluded, Alcheringa – IIT Guwahati hopes to become even bigger and better in the coming editions, and bids adieu to all until next year!
