The preserved water in a vase
And two eyes containing the effortlessness of lakes
Lay an address, afflicted and eternal.
You wanted to know,
What happened to that lonesome address
And I only knew of
The simple autumn light, awash.
Today when the green leaves, today when the roses
Today when the moon, today when the acacia
Have travelled all this way across the impassable voices of clouds,
To understand the silence of seeds
And to see you,
You are asking, Why?
A sky, overcast with countless seagulls
Even after, subduing the plans of autumn
Could not subvert you.
So many dead flowers, so many pale quests,
So many types of denied slumbers!
Because it is the autumn light
Because in the midst of the autumn light,
A denied slumber
Because in the midst of a denied slumber,
You, oh you,
Only you are acceptable!
